Sometimes, change doesn’t begin in big conferences or meetings —but in the quiet heart of a boy,standing beside a dried pond in a small village.That boy is Dev Karan, a 17-year-old from India,who decided that if the ponds were dying,someone had to bring them back to life.And if no one came forward — he would do it himself.

The Pain of the Ponds That Awakened Him

In Dev’s village, there once were many ponds —where children used to swim,farmers drew water,and the shadows of the setting sun danced upon the rippling surface.Gradually, all of them began to disappear —some turned into plastic dumps,others remained only as names on old maps.Many people said, “What can we do now? It’s just the way of time.” But Dev was the first to break that thought.He said —“If time can destroy the ponds, then we can change time itself.”

Pondora – An Idea That Flowed Like Water

With his friends, Dev started a project called “Pondora”meaning giving every pond a chance to live again.They believed that if technology can solve everything,why not the ponds?They installed sensors to monitor water quality,created an app through which villagers could track conditions themselves,and the most beautiful part —they created “Pond Ambassadors” in every village,people who took responsibility for the health of their own ponds.Now, in these villages, ponds are no longer just pits of water —they have become the heartbeat of the community.

India’s Voice on the Global Stage

At the United Nations–supported Young Activists Summit, five young changemakers from across the world were honored —and among them stood one Indian — Dev Karan. At just 17, he stood on that stagewhere usually only renowned reformers are named.“Change doesn’t happen in ivory towers.You have to go down to the swamp and bring it yourself.”The hall didn’t erupt in applause —instead, it fell into a deep silence.Because everyone there realized —true change really rises from the ground up.
